General Information
Safety first: All New Brunswickers must prioritize safety. Stay safe and cautious when
returning to the woods.
Closures and restrictions: The provincial burn ban remains in place. As of August 26, 2025,
most restrictions on Crown land have been removed. Please use caution when returning to the woods. Some agricultural restrictions remain in place and information can be found on the FireWatch page.
Both federal and provincial park trails have reopened. Local governments can use their own discretion on whether to re-open their own parks and trails.
Risk: The wildfire risk is still high as conditions remain dry.
Emergency preparedness: Every household should develop an evacuation plan and emergency kit. Situations can change rapidly, so stay informed at gnb.ca/FireWatch and follow the official Government of New Brunswick social media accounts.
In addition to social media and the FireWatch page, New Brunswickers can also phone 1-833-301-0334 for information or with questions related to wildfires.
Health
Smoke from wildfires can impact air quality – especially during hot weather. Be aware of your symptoms, reduce levels of physical activity as required, and limit time spent outdoors.
If you are having trouble breathing or are experiencing chest discomfort, call your physician or Tele-Care 811. If you are in severe distress, call 911 immediately.
If you find yourself struggling with mental health concerns, reach out to people you trust or call the province’s mental health helpline at 1-866-355-5550.
Evacuation Preparedness
These fires continue to pose a very real threat to people and their property, and an unexpected evacuation can happen at any time.
Every New Brunswicker should have an evacuation plan and emergency kit, and should be prepared to evacuate with all essentials, including medications, important documents, and pets and their supplies.
When preparing for potential evacuation, people are also encouraged to check on their neighbours and loved ones, in case they need any support.
Continue to follow NBEMO and GNB on social media. The latest information and updates will be posted there and on the FireWatch web page at gnb.ca/firewatch.
